The Concept & Initiatives

The smart city concept in Malaysia is gaining more prominence and attention when government allocated RM230 billion (Ringgit Malaysia) for development expenditure under the 10th Malaysia Plan (10 MP).

In the 10th Malaysian Plan (10 MP 2011-2015), Kuala Lumpur ranked 79 out of 130 cities under the Economist Intelligence Unit survey on livability in year 2010. Major initiatives have been identified under the national key results areas (NKRAs) to address this, particularly on combating crime and improving urban public transport.

Livability, however,  encompasses a broader concept, and initiatives to create attractive public spaces, nurture a uniquely  internationally relevant arts and culture scene, and to provide a rich mix of leisure activities will create a distinctive urban character for the Greater Kuala Lumpur and set example to other upcoming cities in Malaysia

The Goal

The goal of the Smart City in Malaysia is to improve everything from energy use to healthcare, education, traffic and shopping by doing it “smart” with the help of ICT. The path is set, the routes are made and now Malaysia is taking meticulous steps to ensure each and every step towards the development of smart cities in each state is done in accordance to the city’s economic growth and socio-economy maturity.

The Greater KL and Smart City Summit by ASLI will revisit the starting point of this modern revolution and educate executive delegates on what has been transpiring in several key cities in Malaysia. This will be a one stop platform that will encapsulate our government‘s vision, cutting edge issues, strategic solutions and pertinent studies of the smart cities in Malaysia.
